Last post I promise. The night's here are really really magical when it comes to the weather. It's so breezy that you hardly notice that you are getting blasted by the salt air. The stars are normally gorgeous and the Milky way is out. It's really hard to believe that the trip is coming to a close. The first week seemed as though it would drag on interminably, but the next two seemed to fly by what with our own projects and relaxing. Yes, we are here to work but in my mind you do your work and you do it well and then you get to explore and play as much as you want and get to drink in all of the sights that none of us will see when we get home back to Sarasota, New York, and Atlanta. I have been promising myself that I would sleep outside for the longest time but I never made it (mainly because the wind is sometimes a little too refreshing and can give you the shivers). Tonight was the night for me and Grace though, and as we walked out to the end of the dock where we planned to sleep it was also the night for Olivia and Adam as well! Grace and I had suited up in our long pants, t-shirts, and bathrobes. Let me give you a little back story. Every room has one, perfect, blue, fuzzy, out-of-this-world soft bathrobe. This bathrobe has saved me many a night from Natalie being wrapped up in the sheet that our bed has and to be honest I think my robe is better. ;) As I was saying we moved out that and everyone peacefully fell asleep. Easy right? They slept out there until the morning when the sun rose and meandered back to bed. NO. Not so at all. I stayed out and woke up shivering and shaking from the damp night air at about 1am. Tried to go back to sleep. Woke up at 2am and decided it was time to go to a real bed where I could sleep for the rest of the night. Walked most of the way back to my room but couldn't even see my hand in front of my face, tripped, rolled my ankle (no biggie; it wasn't bad at all), and gracefully walked right off the path. This wouldn't have been an issue had the "hill" that we are living on not been a steep drop down. You never know what's lurking and making all the rustling and clatter in the trees and leaves every night. I took a pause and felt my way back to the path and decided I could maybe sleep on the hammock outside of the professors' and boys' room so I began my journey back down the hill an safely made it to the hammock which I crawled into gratefully and immediately fell back asleep. Now it's about 4-5am and I am waking up feeling so itchy I could scratch all of my skin off in one fell swoop. I think a bit and it's no brighter than it was when I tried to get to my room the first time so I quietly crawled into the boys room and slept curled on the tile for the rest of the night until about 7am when a very startled Carlos and Adam looked over and saw a lump of a bathrobe curled next to their front door!
I can definitely say that I will probably not be sleeping outside without more planning because that was the worst night of sleep that I have had in a *long* time.
