Not So Little Scientists 7/8/15

Let me tell you right now. Conducting research no matter the complexity is really daunting. You have this great idea and then you realize just how long it's going to take or whether you're going to need more people than you expected. One of my disadvantages is that I am not with another person. Today I went out and took a lot of my preliminary pictures and dropped the majority of my flags and took initial site pictures or each place so that I could find them. I chose an array of corals that had a vast amount of tube worms on them and called it a day. I was still working on my concept and my question for the research but I wanted to make sure that I had sites established.

Oh, can I just pause and say though that today's breakfast of pancakes was absolutely amazing!? :D Mad props to Dante and his cooking. Today is his day off though so Adam is cooking which is also tasty. What a man of an interesting past, special forces, firefighter, divemaster, and cook!

I have spent most of my time chilling with the guys and Grace. Everyone is really cool but we are the late night chill crew. Austin and I spent a good while up on my balcony porch thing just chilling and talking about New College. It's really interesting to talk to someone who has been around the block at New College even more and to talk about the legends. Austin always has a good voice of wisdom because he is in the bio field and has a good story to tell about the professors or a really good, "I remember that one time when..."

Sitting with him on the porch in our hammocks just silent and staring off into the distance made me really think about how much I am going to miss this place. I never realize how much better I feel when I can hear the water and feel the salt (even though it is sticky). Even just not hearing other things (although the choppers have been going because of the Pequena Cayos Cochinos and it's Survivor show that's been happening the entire time that we have been here). The stars are always there even though they aren't the brightest, the spotted eagle rays are always splashing about in the silence of the night. I will say the only thing that I won't miss is the mosquitoes and the no see em's and basically anything that has been making me itchy on this island. My legs look terrible and disgusting but it's always worth it!

Until tomorrow.....
