Straight Chillin' 7/11/15

To be completely honest I am not sure what happened on this day. I am writing several days after this. I think most of the time we have just been sitting, swimming, eating, and working. The island life seems like it is made for a certain kind of person. A lot of the staff here seem like they are looking to escape something whether it is a horrible past or whether it's just from the monotony of society. This is a story place. If you don't like sitting around and talking and listening to the stories of where people came from I feel as though you wouldn't enjoy this island nearly as much. Every single one of the people here has the travel itch and have been hopping from boat to boat (sometimes literally) to find a person they wanted to travel through life with or a place that they were always trying to go. Everyone (the general everyone) down here also has a different view on young people (I think most of the staff here are relatively young). It's a greater respect for that fact that you are an adult and expected to act like one and do your share and it is up to you whether it's a 40 hr work week or sleeping until two in the afternoon. These are some of the most interesting, intelligent, and respectable people I have met in a really long time and even though they may have come from a twisted path of life or are still struggling down it, I can't imagine them any other way.

I have also noticed that it seems that there's an underlying search to find answers to something, to what I don't know. Perhaps waiting for the universe to tell them it was time to move on to another place or that this was the lifestyle that they wanted to lead for the next several years. Tyler is moving on from here when she finished her divemaster certification to go backpacking in Central America by herself. Rochelle was supposed to leave 2 months ago but is still riding out the life. Even Kona is here on her own little adventure without her human and will be flying back to the states when Tyler goes home. It takes a certain kind of person to do live this life of wanderer.

One of the most common conversations/phrases that we have here that Adam brought to the island is:

"Hey! What's up?
Noting much.. just straight chillin'
You?"

And it's true, even while working lets be real, Siesta has nothing on this. The breeze and the cleanest air I have breathed in a really long time.

Today while out observing my sites a strange sight caught my eye...

It was Kona hanging from a rope that was in the process of becoming a rope swing and Thomas the divemaster balancing on the top of the structure and eventually jumping off. We spent a good hour swinging and jumping and adjusting the rope for maximum pendulum motion. A highlight to the day for sure! So long!
