Today began with Codee's alarm going off at 5am (Olivia's new nickname for her is Sunshine!!!) and me realizing that there was no top sheet on mine and Natalie's bed which meant there was no way to pull it off her and onto my goose bumpy body. Afterwards my brain decided it wasn't time to wake up and it was better to return to dreamland following the "look" between Olivia and I (also added by Olivia)
Back to 7:30 am we were all rousing and it was off to another day in the field. We continued our previous assignment from the day before on photography and were told to go fine 3 of each of the follow: crustaceans, fish, plants, and mollusks. The first three were in our first 2 hour snorkel and the mollusks were the second one (and also if you didn't get what you needed you could keep working on the morning's snorkel assignment). The day has been rather chill after that. We are working our way up to longer and longer snorkels. The first time that I went out we were swimming around for about an hour and then came in, but Olivia, Natalie, Grace, Chip, and myself went out for another 45 minutes. When everyone finally went in we had lunch and plunged out into the water for another solid hour and half to look for the rest of the organism trying to find the prettiest or the most exciting. A lot of people wanted to take pictures of the familiar things but to broaden your horizons you have to hunt deeper.
Olivia was able to swim with hundreds of tiny fish, which I was super jealous of. ;) - Sent from Olivia while I was away from my computer
Anyways as I was saying, you get pretty dehydrated and even after working up our endurance it is really nice to kick back. We all regrouped and spent most of the rest of the day working through all of our pictures and identifying them and describing them for the assignment. While it was a quiz we still gave each other a helping hand squinting at small blurry amateur photos trying to convince ourselves that what we were seeing could be a variance of the beautiful national Geographic-esque images we found online. All the girls plus Adam and Chip took a break from studying and went out on to the dock where we were surprised with some of the hottest homemade hot sauce and freshest guac I've ever had (of course they reminded up that this was for promotional materials of course! ;] ). Olivia, Chip, and I kept our skills sharp and clicked away at such candid picture worthy moments.
Most people still crash into their beds earlier than I would have expected. I stayed up with Grace, Adam, Austin, Thomas, and Carlos. Professor Gillman decided to go on a debatable solo night snorkel while we hung out scanning the water for spotted eagle rays with the oh so enthused Dante. I can say we experienced some very priceless, quote worthy moments that all had everyone laughing. I've decided the end of the dock is the best place to be when the bugs come out and ended up out there way too long just talking and staring off into the distance or up at the foggy sky. It was a good end to another great day. :)
